  REBECCA VEX

Artist Statement and Bio
Rebecca (Vex) Bolte

I photograph myself. I do this for a number of reasons. Most importantly I am constantly trying to understand myself: my emotions, my perceptions, my turmoil. Sometimes things that were never quite clear become so obvious when a still image is rendered. Self-portraiture is a challenge for me. I photograph myself because I know what I am capable of and I know what I am looking for. In my quest for the truest form of self-expression, I have begun to develop technique. I’ve used many tricks with mirrors, hidden shutter release cables, and things like that. Recently though the digital age has begun taking over and is making this art form much more simple Photoshop really is my dream come true. I feel like I am at a point in my life where someone has just handed me all of the tools I need. Now I just have to go out there and make it happen.
