A Women In Photography International 25th Anniversary
Distinguished Photographer Program

WIPI is in the process of putting together a list of 100 women photographers to celebrate our 25th Anniversary. Twenty-five photographers from Distinguished, Established, Emerging and Debutante categories. .WIPI is visiting “living photographer” websites of WIPI members and careers of notable photographers.

The goal is to expand upon our Distinguished Photographers award for our Anniversary and celebrate a larger body of women working in the photographic arts. WIPI is looking for women who have been "consistently working" and "making their living from photography" through a client base, fine art or teaching. This does not include an occasional art sale over a period of years. We are looking for dedicated working photographers. Those who are either self-taught or have completed their education and have an "accomplished work history" during the time periods in the groups listed below.

Through our professional contacts and relationships we will bring forth an international list of prominent women who have a "working history" that may/or may not include social engagements in support of establishing programs for the benefit of human kind and/or the arts. Consideration will be given to photographers whose projects/programs involve photography related to women, elderly, children, health issues, homeless, social injustice and/or social commentary and popular culture. This would include photographers who have curitorial, documentary, educational and foundation/non-profit involvements.

Nominations are for "LIVING" photographer/s, who have maintained a career as a WORKING photographer for the number of years noted.  In your e-mail subject line, PLEASE NOTE the name with a GROUP TITLE, Distinguished, Established, Emerging or Debutante and also add the same info into the body your e-mail along with a LINK to the photographer info if you have one.

DISTINGUISHED PHOTOGRAPHERS - 25 years+ - (careers starting prior to 1981) Notable photographers who have accomplished or displayed a strong presence in the world of photography. Photographer must have accomplished making their living from photography for at least 25 years or more listed credentials pertaining to exhibition, client base, educational, public exhibition history, awards/grants/sponsorships, established client list history lecture or seminar credits published SOLO feature/s in international photo / art credited publication and/or book publication website visibility, personal or recognized representation. Has contributed to the field of women in their work through photography and public outreach. (time frame does not include childhood camera experiments, this relates to PROfessional WORKING photographers)

ESTABLISHED PHOTOGRAPHERS - 15 to 25 years, (careers starting approx. 1981 - 1991) Established working photographers, who have accomplished or displayed a strong presence in the world of photography. Photographer must have accomplished making their living from photography for at least 15-25 years or more with visible credentials pertaining to exhibition, client base, educational, public exhibition history, awards/grants/sponsorships, established client list history lecture or seminar credits published SOLO feature/s in international photo / art credited publication and/or book publication website visibility, personal or recognized representation. Has contributed to the field of women in their work through photography and public outreach. (time frame does not include childhood camera experiments, this relates to PROfessional WORKING photographers)

E MERGING PHOTOGRAPHERS 5 to 15 years (careers starting approx. 1991 - 2001) Emerging photographer who have accomplished or displayed a strong presence in the world of photography. Photographer must have accomplished making their living from photography for at least 5-15 years or more with visible credentials pertaining to exhibition, client base, educational, public exhibition history, awards/grants/sponsorships, established client list history lecture or seminar credits published SOLO feature/s in international photo / art credited publication and/or book publication website visibility, personal or recognized representation. Has contributed to the field of women in their work through photography and public outreach. (time frame does not include childhood camera experiments, this relates to PROfessional WORKING photographers)

DEBUTANTE PHOTOGRAPHERS - 1 to 5 years, (approx. 2001- 2007) New talent, exhibition/publication preferred. Photographer must have accomplished making a living as a working photographer, photography teacher. exhibition history, minimum 5 group shows or combination solo and/or group, and/or history of award/grants, magazine publication, website visibility, recognized representation. Has Contributed to the field of women in their work through photography and public outreach.

We are looking for website/internet presence including biographies and résumés that have "dates" of exhibitions, publishing and accomplishment. The Women In Photography International Distinguished Photographer's Award was established to give recognition to an artist who has contributed significantly to the world of photography.


Nominations are for "LIVING" photographer/s, who have maintained a career as a WORKING photographer including, photojournalist, fine art, teacher, commercial photographer with a client base, exhibition and/or publication record in one of the categories listed for the number of years noted.

Stephanie Sinclair, 34, graduated from the University of Florida, with a BS in Journalism and a minor in Fine Art Photography. The Chicago Tribune hired her out of college where she worked for five years. After covering the war in Iraq, Stephanie quit her job and moved to Iraq and then Beirut, Lebanon to work out of the region. Her regular clients include The New York Times Magazine, Time, Newsweek, US News & World Report, Stern, and Marie Claire among others.
She is also the founder of Photobetty.com, a website serving women in photojournalism
