How
do I become a WIPI Member?
See Membership
options. Please fill out the survey, submit and within 10
days either send a check or pay via PayPal. See
How
long will my WIPI membership last?
One year according
to sign up schedule. General & Student Member sign up is April 1 thru June
1 and Aug. 15 thru Oct. 15 (revised
for 2008).
CHARTER Memberships
can sign up anytime.
Member Info
When
is my membership due?
Your RENEWAL membership is due the
1st of the month. Check the Member directory to see the date for
renewal. Your original sign up date is listed at the end of your name. If
you signed up in April 2005, the listing will read (4-05). This means
your renewal is due April 1st of the current year.
I signed up as a General Member in 2006, how much is my Renewal
Fee?
General membership renewal fee is $75.
If your membership has lapsed beyond he renewal date, you will have
to reapply as a new member. Check General
member links, the sign up/renewal date is listed at the end of
each member listing.
I
am unable to sign up within the required dates, what can I do.
Mark your calendar and stop back during the
next New Member SIGN-UP time period, SPRING or FALL. (with the exception
of CHARTER Members)
Does WIPI pro-rate membership?
No, we do not prorate membership fees.
How
often does WIPI send reminders for Membership Dues?
We are currently only sending one or possibly
two reminders. Save and print your sign up or renewal for your records.
We suggest that members visit the Member Link page to see the date next to their
name, this is their RENEWAL DATE
Why does WIPI request my last name to be included in the e-mail
for membership sign up?
WIPI receives lots of e-mail. When e-mail's
are returned because of an address change or full box, it's very time consuming
to search and match the e-mail to the member. If you are a member and not receiving
e-mail refer to your member response page to contact us regarding your concern.
SPECIAL Discounts, how do I have access to special discounts?
WIPI
is always looking for ways to provide members with extra opportunities,
either through WIPI or through one of our sponsors. Any available
discounts are listed on the newly created May 2007/Sponsor / Discount
page. WIPI "paid/current" members receive a discount code
for the various programs.
LAPSED
Membership
My
membership has lapsed, I thought WIPI provided a 30 day grace period?
WIPI
used to provide the 30 day grace period, but we noticed that members
waited until the grace period ended. Don't take it personal, waiting
until the deadline to respond is something many people due. We no
longer provide a grace period. The deadline date is final and members
risk loosing their links. New membership and full fee will be required
to renew the links. MEMBERSHIP dues are DUE on the 1st of the month.
Member Info
My
membership lapsed because I was on vacation, out of town, on a job?
We are sorry, you will have to renew as a NEW Member.
Obviously if you have been a long term WIPI member, we will make the effort to
contact you if you do not have a history of unusually late payment.
Do
I have to pay again for a PhotoProfile if my membership lapsed?
Yes, you are in effect a new member
and the current PhotoProfile
fee will be required.
PhotoProfile
I
would like to have a PhotoProfile, how do I do that?
visit the PhotoProfile
Instruction page, PhotoProfiles are for General, PROfessional
and CHARTER members, a one time fee of $35 is required unless additional
changes are requested during the year. If changes are required, depending
on work involved, the change can cost from $10 to $25. Charges incurred
can be $10 for e-mail or website link change. Photo and/or bio change
is $25. WIPI
suggest that all member's buy their dolman name and use either their
Firstname@domain.com or Info@domain.com so you never have to worry
about updating your links.
I
currently have a PhotoProfile and want to update my address info,
what should I do?
Send your information to webmaster@womeninphotography.org
Do I need a PhotoProfile?
YES... WIPI suggests that this is one of the
best ways to have your work seen at a glance. With the volumes of
info on the internet, many times people do not have the time to visit
each web site. With a PhotoProfile, you are advertising your
work. A a bio clip will entice visitors to see more. Especially useful
for research and historians or galleries looking for photographers
for specific shows. WIPI also suggests using a PhotoProfile if you
only have an e-mail address, this way you can showcase either your
General listing with one image w/bio clip. PRO listing with 3 images
w/bio clip. You can post additional links in the profile section,
perfect for those who use a "name" for their photo work.
This is an excellent opportunity. It is a one time set up fee unless
changes are made in the future.
E-Mail
I
am not receiving e-mail from the WIPI membership.
VERY IMPORTANT - Make sure your junk mail or
spam filter has members@womeninphotography.org free from blocking.
I
like to send out e-mail's and include an image of my work, Does WIPI
accept these e-mail's.
NO - WIPI does not accept any material that
needs to be downloaded unless specifically requested. People are including HTML
files with images and we find that if they are well versed in this area and select
a very small low resolution JPG image, that is fine. We delete e-mail that contain
unsolicited images.
I
have a published feature or gallery in the WIPI archive from November
2001 and my e-mail address has changed. Can you update the info?
No, we cannot update the info. Similar to
a printed publication, once published, that's it. WIPI strongly advises
that members own their own domain name and use an e-mail name that
relates to the web address, i.e., Jane@JaneDoe.com. E-mail can be
relayed from the Domain company to any mail server box. That way e-mail
never has to be updated and someone can always find the photographer
via their domain (website) address and e-mail.
Why does WIPI request members use a domain name e-mail address?
We have found over the years that people
move, companies change and e-mail addresses become lost in the great
server wasteland. If you own your own domain, you can have an e-mail
address such as info@JaneDoe.com or Jan@JaneDoe.com and it can be
relayed to any mailbox or service you use. All you have to do is go
to your domain company and update the account info and relay your
e-mail to send your Jane@JaneDoe.com to your AOL, Earthlink, Yahoo
or whatever account you generally use.
Links
My
Link is not working in the Membership LINKS or the HIRE a WIPI PRO
Photographer section, what should I do?
Contact
webmaster@womeninphotography.org
and provide your FULL NAME name, the URL page where the link
is broken and the correct link info. Be simple and CLEAR about your
needs. WIPI requests new members to make sure their links are working
or up-to-date. WIPI cannot go back to galleries or past articles to
update links. We do update the Membership links, Hire A WIPI PRO,
or PhotoProfile link listing. Please remember to include "who
you are, your FULL name and phone number, old e-mail address and the
new change requested. We often get e-mail's that say, my link is broken..please
fix... and we don't have a clue about who it is, or what link is broken.
Be clear when you make requests.
I had a gallery with WIPI in 2004 and now my links do not work.
WIPI removes links of anyone that is not
a current member. If your membership has lapsed, your link will be
removed. The gallery remains, we just remove the contact information.
Once removed we do not go back and relink old archives. Links
are a current member priviledge.
How do I update my Member link information?
Contact Webmaster@womeninphotography.org.
Provide old information and provide new information with your name
and places where link needs to be changed. With such a large website
you must guide us to where your links are located, i.e., workshops,
member link section.
Who does WIPI list in its Resource section?
Organizations, schools, photo companies,
museums, magazines. We do not list galleries in general, we may list
a broad contact that provides gallery links. See
Photo Resource Section. Galleries can purchase Just-A-Link
or become a PRO or CHARTER member.
GALLERY & Online Photo Submission
How can I have WIPI review my work?
Send a CD according to submission
guidelines or when you fill out the survey, we visit each new
member's work when they submit their survey and make payment for membership.
How
do I submit for an online gallery presentation?
See Gallery submission
guidelines
I
submitted a gallery and did not hear anything.
The submission may have been incomplete. WIPI
eliminates submissions that are not clearly identified as well as
submissions that are not titled properly to match text file listing
of the CD content. See submission guidelines.
How
do I confirm that WIPI has received my CD for Gallery or WIPI News
article submission.
Please send your submissions via Fed-Ex
or UPS Ground, 2 day or Overnight, which provide tracking numbers
or US post Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation. Do not call or
write to WIPI to see if they have received your package. Track your
information. WIPI does not return CD's or printed proof sheets.
I
don't know how to resize my photos for submission.
WIPI
is working on putting together links for several outlets that provide educational
info on digital submissions. WIPI cannot take the time to download large files
and resize. Please ask a friend to help with the submission or request help from
the WIPI message board. We find this is one of the most consistent problems with
submissions. Many magazines and photo companies provide FREE help to learn the
basics of resolution and sizing. See Photo Resource
Section
How does WIPI choose a PRO or General online Gallery?
Member submissions selection depends on the submission
accuracy, photographer's work style, history, consistency and uniqueness. See
submission guidelines.
I would
like to write a story for the WIPI News section, What do I do?
PROfessional
and CHARTER members may submit a feature story for the F2-eZine about their work
or a story related to photography, i.e., marketing, law or teaching techniques.
See Submission guidelines. We look for unique stories,
either in content, educational and especially outreach programs that involve,
elderly, children, homeless and/or business related success or travel logs, special
portfolio's that contain historical reference. Your work could be very inspirational
and interesting, so please do not hesitate to write about yourself and your work.
See WIPI Archives.
WIPI Support
How
can I be supportive of WIPI?
Make sure you provide a Link to the WIPI website,
http://www.womeninphotography.org.
Bring sponsors to WIPI for general purpose and for special events.
Volunteer your time either online or onsite.
I
was a winner of a recent WIPI contest and haven't had a chance to
claim my prize, what do I do?
Most of the WIPI contest's have an expiration
date of approx. 30 days for claims of sponsored award prizes. After
the 30 days, the prize is no longer available. Notices are sent to
winners and if e-mail addresses are no longer current or the person
is out of town, they forfeit the prize because of a non-response.
WIPI always post the deadline dates for contests. Remember to make
a copy of any form or program you participate in.
Is WIPI involved in any other association?
Visit the update section as well as
the HOME page for projects and outreach programs. Please make sure
you check our website for any current listings. We have noticed other
organizations using Women In Photography as a catch title to increase
their attendance and many have believed they were signing up for a
Women In Photography International associated program. Always check
your member notices from WIPI and visit the WIPI
HOME page for our engagements and official involvement, or write
to us and let us know about the request you received.
I
recently graduated from school and am working professionally, can
I join WIPI as a PROfessional photographer?
Generally WIPI requests that PRO members
have a history related to clients and work flow. If you have worked
professionally while attending school and have a client base, please
apply for PRO membership and define your experience in the Additional
Information section. WIPI gets many requests for photographers to
fill jobs or to participate in special projects, such as day in the
life type projects. We now send those inquiries to Hire
A WIPI Pro photographer section.
What is Hire-A-WIPI Pro Section?
Hire-A-WIPI
Pro recommendation section is reserved for PROfessional and CHARTER
Members only. It's a WIPI signature that the women who have signed
up as PROfessional members have the appropriate equipment for the
job, have experience in the fields listed and will handle the client
and the job professionally.
What is the Just-A-Link section?
Just-A-Link
allows a gallery or other type of
listing for public view. For member's, it's an additional opportunity
to again list their name or their company name as an additional way
to advertise your website or contact info.
